June 19, 2014 is the 153rd birth anniversary of Jose Rizal. To celebrate, the first ever Buhayani Festival was held in Calamba, Laguna. Before the parade, I decided to visit our national hero’s house.
How to get there?
It’s easy. Just get off at the Calamba Crossing and take a Tricycle to the Rizal House but beware of “TAGA” fare. Php 30.00 is okay but Php 50.00+ is too much because it will just take you between 5 – 15 mins to get there.
This is a late post because I’m too busy eating burger in the past few days.
We had a chance to see the house of Rizal and already expected a lot of visitors like politicians partying at the garden, some tourists, some students doing their homework (or cutting classes?), some people who portray Rizal, and the media. I almost had the chance to be interviewed but they were looking for a student. How sad. XD
ARTISTA NA YAN!
And here are some photos that I took but to experience it is so much better than just looking at the photos. The good thing is, the place was well-maintained and well-preserved as compared to the ancestral house in Binan, Laguna. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-the-Historic-Alberto-House-Bi%C3%B1an-Laguna/110279382381623
Back in High School, the novels of Jose Rizal are among our subjects in our Filipino class: the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. To be honest, I never focused on this class because of my teacher’s method of teaching is way too boring (Sorry, teach!). So, I just skipped classes or slept during class. I passed the class and graduated without knowing the whole content of the books. I just got a chance to understand the books so much more because of the artistic way they presented it in theater plays during college.
Enough of throwback. Try to join the party. You will not see some thing like this everyday. So try to blend in, act like a local not a tourist.
And also try their Pasalubong delicacies.
It’s like an early campaign for the 2016 election. That’s how I saw this so-called Buhayani Festival. Why? The beautification material used on the event featured politician’s faces. That’s why.
And that’s all folks! I’m hungry and I think I’m craving for another burger.Happy Birthday Rizal & Buhayani Festival June 19, 2014 is the 153rd birth anniversary of Jose Rizal. To celebrate, the first ever Buhayani Festival was held in Calamba, Laguna.
